Plastic Surgery - Why You Might Not Be an Ideal Patient

See why you might not be able to have plastic surgery

There are many reasons that patients might want to have plastic surgery and they include a desire to enhance the breasts (breast augmentation), reduce the size of the breasts (breast reduction), or eliminate stubborn and hard to remove fat on the body (liposuction). Even though plastic surgery is a viable option for many people, there might be some reasons why you are not considered to be an ideal candidate for a procedure. Let’s examine why you might not qualify for a particular plastic surgery treatment.

Plastic Surgery – Why Would You Not be a Candidate?

Why You Wont be Candidate of Plastic SurgeryThe best way to find out if you are an ideal candidate for a plastic surgery procedure is by scheduling a consultation appointment with a board-certified surgeon who is experienced in performing the desired surgery, The surgeon will determine your current level of health, discuss your medical history with you, and also explain in detail how the procedure is performed.

When it comes to not being an ideal candidate, there are multiple reasons why this might be the case. For example, the type of procedure and the complexity of the surgery factor into the decision of identifying an ideal patient. A minimally invasive treatment such as Botox or liquid rhinoplasty are usually safe for most patients. On the other hand, an invasive surgical procedure such as a facelift or breast implants might not be a safe option for someone with certain medical conditions.

In addition, the setting of realistic expectations is also an important part of being an ideal candidate for any type of plastic surgery. It is important for the doctor to discuss the pros and cons of the surgery so the person who wants to have the treatment will know what to expect when it comes to the results. Plus, the setting of realistic expectations also helps a person to not be surprised or disappointed by the appearance, extent, or length of the results that appear after the surgery. If you do not seem to understand the type of results that will appear, or you continue to have unrealistic expectations when it comes to the final results, the doctor might make the decision to not perform the desired procedure.

The type of lifestyle habits you practice can also work against you being approved by the doctor. Some of the unhealth lifestyle habits that can prevent you from undergoing plastic surgery include excessive drinking or smoking, high blood pressure, or having an overly high body mass index (BMI). You might need to reduce your BMI, get near your ideal body weight, and/or stop smoking and drinking for a certain amount of time before the doctor will meet with you again about a plastic surgery procedure.

If you have experienced any type of surgical complications in the past, such as excessive bleeding, issues with wound healing, or blood clots, you might be at a higher risk level for once again experiencing complications after another surgical procedure. If the procedure you have in mind is an elective one, which means it is not medically necessary, the surgeon might determine that the possible complications are too great, and these possible risks outweigh the overall benefits that can result from the desired treatment.

There is also the possibility that a person might want to have plastic surgery for the wrong reasons. They might want to make changes to their appearance in order to make someone else happy with their appearance as opposed to wanting to undergo the treatment because they have changes to their look that they desire to see. Another example of wanting plastic surgery for the wrong reason is trying to have liposuction in order to lose weight. While liposuction can eliminate stubborn and hard to remove fat from the body, it is not a weight loss method and should not be considered for that purpose. A healthy diet and exercise plan should always be the first choice when it comes to reducing the amount of excess fat that is present in the body. It should also be noted that failure to maintain a healthy weight after liposuction can result in more areas of fat deposits forming on the body.

Plastic Surgery – Get Your Options from a Plastic Surgeon

As mentioned earlier, the first step in the plastic surgery process should be a consultation appointment with a doctor who specializes in performing the desired surgery. This appointment is your opportunity to ask any questions and voice any concerns about the surgery you have in mind. If the doctor decides that you are not qualified to have the surgery, you can instantly ask questions about what you can do to become an ideal candidate in the future.

Once you have the necessary information and form a plan with the doctor, you can take the necessary steps to (hopefully) have your procedure of choice in the future so you can attain the look you want to achieve with your body.
